The difference between FLV and F4V, Convert F4V to flash SWF on mac

I'm having difficulty understanding the differences between the standard file type FLV and the file F4V type. I'm having a problem getting the FLV playback component to play F4V files from a Flash Media Server. The FLV files play fine, but the F4V files don't play. It sits there looking like it is buffering the video, but never plays. Can the FLV playback component play F4V files? All f the documentation I have read says yes, but I can't seem to make it work. Is there extra steps/code needed for F4V? Again I haven't seen anything online that points out any differences in the way the two formats are used. What is F4V?

F4V is a video file format which is developed by Adobe Flash. F4V files belong to HD video. Since videos in F4V format are usually encoded in H.264, the F4V format is based on the format specified by ISO/IEC 14496-12: ISO base media file format.
