Handbrake is a free multimedia utility which can convert standard DVD's into compressed formats: MP4 and MKV. One thing you have to mind is that Handbrake can only convert standard video DVD's that you would normally play in a DVD player. How to rip DVDs with Handbrake for mac

Step1. Insert DVD and Launch Handbrake
Insert your DVD into Mac and Apple's DVD palyer will start automatically, then don't mind it and just close it. Launch Handbrake.

Step2. Install VLC Player
A window will show you "Handbrake could not find VLC or your VLC is out of date" message. Click "Get VLC" to download the latest VLC player version.



Step3. Get the VLC item into Application folder
In order to make sure Handbrake can find your VLC player, you have to drag the VLC player item into Application folder.



Step4. Reload DVD movie and define the destination and choose a output format: MP4 file or MKV file
